Introduction

Turning Complex Financial Data into Clearer Lending Decisions

Context

Home loan assessment requires more than a summary of what an applicant earns and spends. Assessors need to reconcile declared information with financial records, understand ongoing commitments, and evaluate whether the applicant can service a loan.

The product brings this information into a connected workflow, allowing assessors to move from an application-level overview to detailed financial evidence.

Problem

Financial data can be available without being easy to assess.

Information spread across accounts, transactions, and documents makes it difficult to build a complete picture of an applicant’s finances. Differences between declared and recorded information including income variations, spending discrepancies, and potentially undisclosed accounts can be easy to overlook.

The design challenge was to make dense financial information understandable while keeping exceptions and their supporting evidence visible.

Objective

Design a clear, evidence-led workspace that supports informed lending decisions.

The experience should help assessors:

  • Understand the applicant’s overall financial position at a glance.

  • Compare declared information with recorded financial data.

  • Identify discrepancies and prioritise areas requiring investigation.

  • Move from summaries to supporting records without losing context.

  • Review validation and document-processing statuses clearly.

The aim was to reduce the effort of interpreting financial data while preserving the detail assessors need to exercise professional judgement.

Financial Overview

Bringing the Full Financial Picture into Focus

Reviewing financial information across separate screens makes it difficult to see the full picture. The dashboard brings key metrics and validation flags together so assessors can identify what needs attention before exploring the details.

Account Disclosure

Uncovering Gaps in Account Disclosure

Accounts spread across applicants and data sources can make financial commitments easy to overlook. Grouped account summaries and undisclosed-account alerts help assessors spot gaps and investigate missing information.

Income Validation

Validating Income Beyond Declared Earnings

Stated income alone does not show whether earnings are consistent or supported by transaction data. Income trends, source breakdowns, and validation flags help assessors evaluate earnings and identify discrepancies.

Expense Analysis

Revealing Actual Household Spending

Declared expenses can obscure recurring commitments and variations in household spending. Monthly trends and category breakdowns help assessors understand actual expenditure and compare it with the applicant’s stated costs.

Assets & Liabilities

Connecting Assets with Financial Obligations

Reviewing properties, loans, and credit cards separately makes it difficult to understand an applicant’s overall financial position. A consolidated view brings ownership, balances, and repayments together, highlighting discrepancies that require review.

Supporting Evidence

Making Supporting Evidence Easy to Find and Track

Supporting documents can be difficult to locate, associate with applicants, and track through processing. A searchable library with applicant filters and processing statuses helps assessors find evidence and spot documents needing attention.
